The building contains nine major spaces \u2013 including an aquatic centre, ice arena, curling rink, gymnasium, skatepark and dedicates areas for children, youth and retirees \u2013 and was commended by judges for its accompanying landscaping.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 16.5pt; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">Allford Hall Monaghan Morris won the \u2018New and Old &#8211; Completed Buildings\u2019 award for The Bower mixed-use commercial development housed in a former collection of 1960s buildings originally built for British Telecom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 16.5pt; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">In the \u2018Leisure Led Developments \u2013 Future Projects\u2019 category, Tabanlioglu Architects was the winner with their Tersane Halic &#8211; Halic Shipyards project that incorporates marinas, hotels, housing, offices and leisure areas while respecting the typology of old Istanbul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 16.5pt; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">And the \u2018Sport &#8211; Completed Buildings\u2019 category was won by Anna Noguera + Javier Fernandez with their Turo de la Peira&#8217;s sports centre, which was recognised for its &#8220;outstanding use of resources with a sustainable ethos&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 16.5pt; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0in 0in 7.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10.0pt; font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: black;\">The WAF runs for 4-6 of December, with category winners awarded\u00a0from the shortlists\u00a0throughout and overall winners announced on the final day.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2019\u00a0opened yesterday in Amsterdam, with the first awards announced for winners in a number of categories.
