{"id":1170,"date":"2019-12-06T11:16:54","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T11:16:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ngparchitects.co.uk\/?p=1170"},"modified":"2019-12-06T11:16:54","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T11:16:54","slug":"mixed-use-community-and-culture-recognised-at-world-architecture-festival-day-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ngparchitects.co.uk\/?p=1170","title":{"rendered":"Mixed-use, community and culture recognised at World Architecture Festival day two"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The second day of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldarchitecturefestival.com\/\">World Architecture Festival Awards (WAF) 2019<\/a>\u00a0saw mixed-use, cultural and community projects celebrated across a number of categories.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ngparchitects.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Picture2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1171\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ngparchitects.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Picture2.jpg\" alt=\"Picture2\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Culture &#8211; Future Projects\u2019 award was won by White Arkitekter for The New GoDown Arts Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, recognised for its clearly articulated &#8220;combination of social, traditional and environmental objectives&#8221; and a &#8220;good list of local materials and construction&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>STUDIO V Architecture won in the \u2018Experimental \u2013 Future Projects\u2019 category with their The Tanks at Bushwick Inlet Park proposal \u2013 a 21st century public park in New York City that will pay homage to the community\u2019s legacy of manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Hotel and Leisure &#8211; Completed Buildings\u2019 award went to Architecture Workshop for their Lindis Lodge project, a five-bedroom luxury lodge in the New Zealand Southern Alps that mixes &#8220;poetic&#8221; and &#8220;sensitively considered&#8221; design with sustainable features for water treatment, heating, cooling, ventilation and insulation.<\/p>\n<p>Serie + Multiply Architects won the \u2018Mixed Use \u2013 Completed Buildings\u2019 award for their Oasis Terraces project, which provides public housing in Punggol, Singapore, as well as a carefully considered and adaptably integrated shopping centre, polyclinic and community amenities.<\/p>\n<p>Studio Akkerhuis&#8217; De Meelfabriek development in Leiden, Netherlands, won the \u2018Commercial Mixed Use \u2013 Future Projects\u2019 category for the creation of a new vibrant urban fabric of living, working, recreational and retail facilities on a formerly neglected and inaccessible industrial brownfield site.<\/p>\n<p>And, having taken home an award on day one of the festival, Heatherwick Studio won again \u2013 this time in the \u2018Shopping &#8211; Completed Buildings\u2019 category. Their addition of two bridges to link up London&#8217;s\u00a0Coal Drops Yard\u00a0is credited with helping the development become &#8220;a landmark for King\u2019s Cross while respecting the site\u2019s heritage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday&#8217;s round-up article highlights\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/368gixd\">winners from day one<\/a>\u00a0of the WAF, while the overall winners will be announced today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second day of the\u00a0World Architecture Festival Awards (WAF) 2019\u00a0saw mixed-use, cultural and community projects celebrated across a number of categories.
